On the 11th October 2014, a living statue was seen on the streets of Sleaford. A collaboration between the Civic Trust and artsNK, this was a venture to seek publicity, but also to gauge public opinion on the Les Gostick Statue.
Although public opinion was greatly in favour of a statue and a site was suggested in Monument Gardens near the Museum, excessive cost made the statue unattainable. Les is not forgotten however and the Civic Trust are determined to produce an appropriate way for Sleaford to remember Les and his invaluable contribution to saving the River Slea.
UPDATE 2024
Photograph shows Tony Brand, Mayor, and Pauline Dobson of MosArt at the unveiling.
These photographs show that indeed Les was not forgotten by Sleaford and the Civic Trust, and his invaluable contribution to saving the River Slea is commemorated in a beautiful mosaic created by MosArt, taking pride of place on the wall of Sleaford Museum in Monument Gardens. It was erected in 2020.
