This is the scheme with which we have brought to life Sleaford’s history. Eight buildings were chosen from a shortlist and plaques with both QR codes and NFC tags embedded within were designed, manufactured and attached to them. After scanning the code with a smartphone the user will download a short film made by our local production company with actors playing the parts of historical Sleafordians who were resident or working there, describing aspects of their lives and of Sleaford itself at that point in history.
The project was undertaken with the cooperation of the Civic Trust, the Dulverton Trust and Sleaford Town Councillors.
On the 19th April 2018, the Trail was opened by the Mayor of Sleaford, Cllr. Jan Mathieson, with the members of the executive committee of the Civic Trust.
UPDATE 2024
The Sleaford Heritage Trail has gone from strength to strength in the intervening 6 years. There are now 12 locations including Sleaford Castle and Sleaford Railway Station, together with the Arboretum on the Sleaford Cemetery site with its fantastic mosaics completed by MosArt. The link at the beginning of this paragraph takes you to an excellent website with full information about the trail and how to access it.
When approaching selected Heritage Trail sites you can listen to Echoes of the Past on your smartphone.
Just download the ECHOES app from Google Play or App Store to explore sound from around the world.
With this app you will join Sleaford’s ECHOES trail which will introduce you to characters from the town’s past. ECHOES of the town’s history will be heard as you approach buildings and sites on the trail. At each location you will find a green Heritage Trail plaque with NFC and a QR code linking to the audio- visual presentation from which the trail ECHOES are taken.
In several locations you will also find a bronze Art and Heritage plaque.
Sleaford Castle, Sleaford Station and Belton House are the first local sites to be added to the international database.
